In order to investigate the effect of planting date on plant height, number of spikes, and spike length of wheat varieties, a split-plot study was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications in the 1403-1404 crop year in Injil district of Herat province. The main factor included four planting dates (26 October, 10 November, 26 November, and 10 December) and the sub-factor Variety included (Chant 1, Kalak, and Wahdat 15). The results of analysis of variance showed that the effect of planting date, varieties, and the interaction effect of planting date and varieties on plant height, number of fertile spike, and spike length were significant at the 1% probability level. The results of comparing the averages of the interaction effect of planting date and variety showed that planting date 10 November and variety Vahdat 15 with an average of 299 fertile spike had the highest number of fertile spike per square meter, while planting date 10 December and variety Kalak with an average of 169 fertile spike had the lowest number of fertile spike per square meter. The overall results showed that the planting date of 10 November and the variety Wahdat 15 have the best planting date and variety in the climatic conditions of Injil district of Herat province.
