Abstract

The research provides a scholarly review of the challenges, opportunities, and processes of quality assurance in Afghan universities, with a particular focus on Shaikh Zayed University. The main research purpose is to inspect how is the quality assurance process at Sheikh Zayed University, and to study what opportunities and challenges this process faces. The research hypothesis suggests that despite various challenges, the quality assurance process at Shaikh Zayed University is moving forward effectively, and if the existing opportunities are properly managed, the process will be implemented more successfully and efficiently. The study is based on a mixed analytical and descriptive method, using surveys, semi-structured interviews, and the analysis of official documents. The survey sample consisted of deans of faculties, heads of departments, lecturers, academic registrars, and administrative staff. In addition, in-depth interviews were conducted with the vice chancellor for academic affairs, the vice chancellor for research, and the head of quality assurance. Furthermore, the external evaluation reports of quality assurance at Shaikh Zayed University for the years 1400, 1401, and 1402 were carefully studied. The findings show that although the quality assurance process at Shaikh Zayed University holds full accreditation, it still faces obstacles such as weak research, limited information resources, technological deficiencies, insufficient budget, lack of human capacity, and unclear policies, all of which have negatively affected its effectiveness. On the other hand, ministry support, stable security, the professional development center, and the presence of trained academic staff both inside and outside the country are important strengths for strengthening quality assurance. This research will contribute to the Ministry of Higher Education and universities in formulating policies related to quality assurance.
