Abstract

A Review of the Role of Organizational Culture in Employee Retention

Esmatullah Nikzad

Abstract

Employee retention is considered one of the fundamental challenges of contemporary organizations, playing a crucial role in preserving human capital and enhancing organizational performance. Meanwhile, organizational culture, as a set of shared values, beliefs, and norms, can have a decisive impact on employee attitudes and behaviors, particularly on their decision to continue working with the organization. The main objective of this research is to examine the role of organizational culture in employee retention using a review-analytical approach. This research is applied in terms of its objective, and in terms of its implementation method, it has been conducted using library research and qualitative content analysis. The required data were gathered through studies of credible scientific articles and books. The research findings indicate that various dimensions of organizational culture—including organizational justice, effective communication, employee participation, and opportunities for growth and learning—play a significant role in increasing organizational commitment and reducing employees' intentions to leave. Furthermore, the results indicate that weaknesses in organizational culture can lead to consequences such as reduced productivity, increased human resource costs, and weakened organizational cohesion. Overall, this research emphasizes the strategic necessity for managers to focus on strengthening organizational culture as a key factor in retaining employees.
