The Sun is located at a distance of 149,597,870 km from the Earth. The earth rotates on its axis and also revolves around the sun in an elliptical manner. The earth rotates on its axis to create day and night, and the earth rotates around the sun to create seasons. Therefore, the amount of incoming energy from the sun to the earth varies daily and seasonally.
